If movies are your thing then venture into the family room for a movie or two on a flat screen. Afterwards relax in a bubbly hot tub under a magical Brown County sky. Walking along the deck feels a bit like you are entering a 3-story tree house. The glass french doors lead you into the great room where you’ll find cathedral ceilings with plenty of windows to enjoy the forest from indoors as well as out. The open living space contains a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, large dining room table, and living room. Down a short hall on the main floor are two bedrooms, and a full bath. Both bedrooms have queen beds. Walk up the stairs to the loft which overlooks the great room, and get another wonderful view of the windows looking out to the hardwood forest. In the loft you'll find a third bedroom with a king bed, a bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a sitting room. At Chanterelle Chalet you'll also enjoy a partially furnished basement with equipped game room, wood stove insert for heat in the winter, and a third full bathroom. The house is at the end of a road that dead-ends into the forestry, and lies on a large piece property adjacent to state forest, providing ample privacy and great forest viewing! Relax in the hammock and enjoy the spectacular colors of the leaves in the fall, go for a long hike and watch the birds and other wildlife, listen to the sound of owls and whippoorwills while you star gaze or sit by the outdoor fire pit in the evenings. Test your naturalist skills in identifying the vast number of mushrooms, plants (medicinal and other) and tree species that grow around the property and in the adjacent forestry. The house has central air and heat as well as a wood stove insert with glass door in the basement, so you'll be comfortable no matter what time of year you visit. Children will have fun playing in the sand pile and on the swing set, as well as in the game room downstairs, and televisions with DVD players are located on both the first floor and in the basement, with basic Direct TV. Your well-behaved dog is welcome, and the house has a large fenced pet area on the side of the house where he/she can enjoy the outdoors without you worrying about them (note, obviously test the fence for your animal before trusting them there, as a few smart dogs have figured out how to climb or otherwise escape, although most remain contained and content. Also note that several of the neighbors have horses, dogs, cats and chickens, so please be respectful that your animal doesn't disturb them). The house is five minutes from Lake Lemon and Danny Smith Park, 15 minutes from Nashville, IN, Brown County State Park, and Bloomington, IN. It is about 20 minutes from Lake Monroe and Indiana University--and functions as a great place to stay with family or friends for IU games and events. The house is also close to IU hospital, Yellowwood state forest, Morgan Monroe state forest, and the Tecumseh trail, as well as miles of popular biking roads. Come nature enthusiasts for the fall colors, wildflower viewing, mushroom hunting, long bike rides on the country roads, hiking, or just a place to escape, relax and unwind!

The Oaks Come and enjoy the nature, adventure, beauty and comfort of The Oaks! The history of The Oaks goes back to the mid 30’s when the core of the current cabin was built as a summer home from property timber and stone. Over the next several decades a beautiful cedar three level structure was added over the original cabin, and three decks were added to give it its unique charm today. From the rooftop deck hear the birds call, the oaks rustle or just relax and soak in the sun. Let the kids play on the play set while you enjoy the hammock. If you’re more energetic, or more likely, if they are, ? explore the 2 marked trails that wind around the grounds. Don’t forget to swing on the tree swing down the hill, or the 2 person swing overlooking the pond. Or maybe it’s a game of basketball with the teenagers. Most folks, small and large, enjoy fishing the pond with stocked 2 lb. catfish as well as smaller bass and bluegill. Oh, can’t forget a soak in the hot tub in the early morning or late night! Step into the first level and be greeted with a warm and comfortable family room with an entire wall made of stone from the property. The built in gas fireplace provides the warmth and cheer to groups relaxing on the couches and the 46” HD TV with Blu-Ray & satellite can be viewed from both this room and the kitchen. The breakfast bar and the glass dinning gazebo provide ample seating for 10. The kitchen is very generously stocked with all the necessary appliances and then some! Enjoy breakfast outdoors on the patio. There is a unique half bath and laundry room on this level as well. Check out the Living/Game Room on the next level. The unique Geode Gas Fireplace warms and cheers the activities that include pool, Wii games, cards at the bar height table. Maybe enjoy one of the 100+ books curled up on the window seat. In the surrounding Window Room there is basketball and foosball to challenge you. A large deck is off the window room that is a couple steps from the hot tub and play set. The Red Bedroom is on this level with its red bath, queen bed and flat screen with satellite. The Log Bedroom with several walls of the original logs, also boasts a private bath and queen bed. Both of these bedrooms have access to a small deck for viewing the morning bird and animal activity. On the top level of The Oaks you will find two spacious bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a king bed, 55 in TV, a VCR/DVD player, and a comfortable leather chair. There is a large walk in closet where kids love to set up camps! The Blue Bedroom has a queen bed, sitting area and again a large walk in closet. These bedroom share the very large bath complete with a Jacuzzi tub, a wall of mirrors and marble tile. Both of these bedrooms have access to the roof top deck that offers amazing views of the property. The Oaks charms and surprises at every turn. So come visit with your friends or family, and experience a unique cabin and create priceless memories!

Either way…you’ll enjoy the convenience of the full-size stove and fridge, and the option of eating at the wrought-iron dining room table, or on the deck or covered porch. Surrounded by pretty trees, shady breezes aplenty will draw you outdoors where you can enjoy a campfire, a soak in the hot tub, or just sit and listen for the whistle of the occasional Indiana Railroad train going by. Opened to guests as of June 2015, Crawdad Creek is one of the newest additions to the line-up of cabins and cottages offered by Hills O’ Brown Vacation Rentals, and is conveniently located just a 10-15 minute drive from the center of Nashville. Easy access off State Road 45 means no long or steep driveways to maneuver in inclement weather. You’ll also be within 4 miles of Bean Blossom, home of the annual Bill Monroe Bluegrass Festival, and, the cute antiques shop called Plum Creek Antiques. Boating and swimming adventures await you at Lake Lemon, about 5 miles to the west, and Bloomington’s a scenic drive of about 18 miles. Crawdad Creek is a quiet country getaway for guests who hold tickets to IU events, or parents who just want to come check on their favorite college student. Whether you like to jump in the car and run around, or stay put and chill, make Crawdad Creek your ‘go-to’ country cottage.

Are you the person who longs for a secluded…and we mean really secluded, cabin in the woods? Do you wonder what it would be like to be off the beaten path, where you can listen to the birds call to one another, and hear the deer snort as they forage in the woods? If you are that person who prefers nature to… well, just about everything else…then Middle of Nowhere may be the perfect hideaway for you. Backing up to Hoosier National Forest and Yellowwood State Forest, guests of Middle of Nowhere will be able to commune with Mother Nature on an up-close-and-personal level. Owned by a German grandmother, the vintage log cabin is affectionately also known as “Oma’s Cabin”, and features a number of cooking utensils, furniture, and interesting artifacts of days gone by. There’s plenty of room on the porch or outdoors to stretch your legs as you ramble around looking over the yard and surrounding woods. A screened-in gazebo and fire pit with seating invites you to linger and tell ghost stories as you gather round the campfire, making s’mores with the kids Oma might have the s’mores-making stuff in the fridge for you…so be sure to check it out. You’ll enjoy looking out into the trees from the big windows in the dining room, as you savor your breakfast and discuss the day’s activities to come. The adjoining compact kitchen has wooden counter tops and open shelving, plus the basic appliances one needs for making meals at home. Please be aware that this cabin’s water source is an underground holding tank, called a cistern, and the water is trucked in on a regular schedule. It is very important that you are conservative in your water usage! The quaint log cabin has a native stone wood-burning fireplace … imagine how nice that would be on a chilly night! A couple of futons. are available for sleeping in the living room, and a loft bedroom accessible by a steep ladder offers two twin beds and a double bed as well. While there is a window AC at Middle of Nowhere for the really hot days, there is no internet or TV service…so this is the perfect place for you to truly “unplug” and just enjoy the companionship of your family and friends. Even though this cabin is quite remote and secluded, it is a pretty oasis in the midst of government-owned forests that the true nature enthusiast will surely appreciate.

Cabin in Nashville, Indiana

You won’t believe you are only 8 minutes from Downtown Nashville when you pull up the driveway to this beautiful retreat. Super secluded on 5 wooded acres, this 2 bedroom, 2 bath log cabin is as equally quaint for a romantic getaway as it is fun for a weekend with your family or close friends. If you want to get outside and meander through Nashville or check out the state park, just 12 minutes away, there is much to do. Bloomington, and the IU Campus, is under 30 minutes on a scenic drive via IN 45, so your location is situated perfectly for campus visits of any reason. If the weather calls for a little less outdoor adventure, you can sit under the wraparound porch and read a book on the swing, dine in the screened-in porch after preparing a meal in the fully furnished kitchen, play a game, shoot some pool, get cozy in front of the gas fireplace, watch TV or gather with those you are with and take time to catch up on life’s journeys. There is plenty of space and area for everyone to be able to stretch out and recharge. No matter what your day brings, you will enjoy being able to wind down grilling on the barbeque, lounging in the hot tub, and sitting around the fire pit at night. Just don’t forget to bring all the fixin's for s’mores! We hope that Deer Dance Log Cabin can be a place that you will want to make special memories year after year. There are a lot of updates happening now and planned for the near future. Internet is now available, but it is totally ok if you disconnect and don’t use it! In addition to the king and queen beds, there is also a full-sized futon. There is a $75 fee per pet for our pet-friendly properties. Deer Dance Log Cabin has a fairly steep drive. It is helpful if you have a front-wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicle. When going up the hill maintain a steady speed and you should not have any problems.

Cabin (1610 sq. ft.) in Morgantown, IN
3.6 miles from Lake Lemon
One bedroom w/ loft family cabin located on 16 wooded acres in NW Brown County. Great for a family and weekend getaways! Very secluded, peaceful -- beautiful in all seasons. Big front porch and the property is full of wildlife. I've owned this cabin for 20 years and regularly use it with my kids and my friends. And thus -- a family cabin. What you are getting is a second home established for native comfort. Nice beds, large working kitchen with most modern conveniences -- convection oven/stove, microwave, fridge (and stocked with basics that we use ourselves and you are also welcome to use), good cookware, dishwasher (that so-kountry moveable type), coffee maker, electric skillet, three (count 'em) Weber grills, random working spices, etc. I stay at rental homes myself from time to time -- I hate dealing with burned-up teflon skillets and dull knives. That won't be your issue -- I promise. I adore music and if you do to, it's a fun experience. I have a new computer running itunes connected to the stereo. And in itunes I have my music collection -- 36,000 songs for you to enjoy. I usually just play it on random -- it's a fun, permanent radio station. I also have about 300 LP records, from my 'youth'. There are two guitars, strung, played and maintained. A capo, extra strings, picks, etc. If you play, enjoy these. There's a wood-burning stove which is wonderful to run during the cold months. Likely required in the Dec/Jan. There's a large, covered front porch, full of seating options. A great place to sit and gaze into the quiet show that is the woods directly in front of you. We have pileated woodpeckers and a red tailed hawk ranging on the property. We have two big TVs and associated DVD players, stereo (already noted), Windows 8 laptop. We now have fiber (as of 10/16/200). There is no cable. There is no landline phone. Two window unit AC's that do the job. Space heaters for the winter along with a propane wall unit and the wood stove. Firewood provided. The bath is nice -- shower insert, pedestal sink, etc. One note -- this is a cabin deep in the woods. While we do everything we can to mitigate the native pests -- we still get native pests! This would include insects entering the property (though I use an exterminator twice a year) and mice. Unfortunately, mice are a function of cabins. I have baited 'traps' inside and outside and re-doubled my efforts this Spring/Summer but it's not uncommon to run into a mouse. Now, don't get me wrong -- it's not an epidemic but I would like to set expectations. We actively mitigate but eradicating is simply not possible for all the threat. This is about a 20 year old cabin, built from a kit (courtesy of Poole Saw Mill in Helmsburg, IN). It's poplar log that was laid green and seasoned in-place for two years. Then finished. The man who built it, Daniel, is Amish and did a nice job. He lived on the property for about for about five years and there are several charming outbuildings -- outhouse, manger, canning shed, chicken coop and a little structure on the 'back 40'. Daniel lived in that crazy structure out back for a couple years with his wife and two kids while he was developing the property! I built a big barn in 2001. And there is a large deck on the rear.

Driving along one of the prettier country roads in Brown County for only four short miles from Nashville, you’ll make your way to the pleasant log cabin known as Sanctuary, so named for the peaceful setting and comfortable nature of this vintage home. The visitor who appreciates antique furniture and artifacts will take delight in admiring the owners’ collections on display. First of all you’ll find the screened porch that goes across the front of the house…it is, of course, complete with chairs and a swing for listening to birds in the surrounding wooded site. A large living room is nicely outfitted with a sofa & a couple of chairs around the stone fireplace. Authentic bead-board paneling, pine floors with braided rugs and cute little cabin windows take you back to a time when needs were simple. Satellite TV will keep you abreast of current events, if you find that you even care once you’ve settled in. The spacious kitchen, which was completely remodeled in 2018, invites guests to whip up something tasty on the reproduction Country Charm stove, and then savor the results of the cook’s efforts at a huge table in the adjoining sunny dining room. This room feels like a big sunporch with its décor of stained glass and views to the woods and pond located just a few steps outside the back door. Take a soak in the outdoor hot tub. Pretty crewel-embroidered curtains and quilts on the queen-size iron bed provide a cozy theme in the master bedroom located through double doors just off the living room. Master bathroom (shower only). A second sleeping space is reached by climbing the stairs to the attic bedroom where a double-size four-poster bed and pretty antique dresser await guests. Another bathroom at the foot of the stairs is cleverly outfitted with a sink mounted in a wooden barrel… and lovely stained glass windows add rich color to the space. Sanctuary Cabin is a safe haven to cast away your cares and reconnect with someone special…or maybe even yourself. As you step across the threshold of Weekender Retreat, you will be transported back in time, when life was more simple and quiet. This cozy little place offers a chance to rest and observe a common 1930's construction style seen in numerous Brown County log cabins. Summer is an especially lovely time to visit the Weekender, as pink rambler roses climb over the split rail fence out front. The cute front door gives a hint of the authentic and rustic ambiance you'll experience during your visit. Perfectly sized for two to four, the cabin features 1 bedroom with a queen size bed, and 1 bath with a corner shower. In the living room you'll find a sofa (which converts to a queen-size bed) a loveseat, and a comfortable wooden rocker. A fireplace outfitted with gas logs means you won't have to put on your coat to carry in an armload of firewood...just flip the switch, and you'll have a great fire going in seconds. Satellite TV and a stereo will provide options for indoor entertainment while you're here, plus there's a collection of board games to play with, too. The kitchen is equipped with all the trappings for preparing a meal...an arched brick alcove provides an interesting home for the electric range; and an adjoining dining area with nice big windows is a lightfilled spot for savoring an omelet or pancakes. If the weather allows, there's a nice black patio table and chairs on the back deck...conveniently located near the charcoal grill. As you go down the steps to the yard level, you'll see that Weekender Cabin also has an attractive little campfire pit. Just beyond the campfire pit is a pond stocked with fish. Another item of outdoor interest is a large concrete table.

Cabin in Nashville, Indiana
4.4 miles from Lake Lemon
‘Tween Waters Trails About 5 miles from the center of Nashville you will find the cabin named ‘Tween Waters Trails - named for the trails and the twin lakes on the property. This cabin was built of 220-year old tulip poplar logs and is a log cabin lover’s delight that sits secluded and serene between two pretty ponds with hiking trails leading through the wooded hills behind it. As you drive up the driveway and across the dam of the first pond to the guests’ parking area, you’ll soon feel welcome to kick back to do some deck-sitting. A big window beside the dining table overlooks the deck, as well as a couple of the owners’ cute garden sheds tucked back into the woods. A charcoal grill and picnic table are just waiting for your best barbecue recipes to be prepared and shared with your travel companions. The cabin - French doors and a gorgeous stained glass window separate the kitchen from the commodious living room, where you’ll appreciate the pretty hardwood floors, log walls, fireplace, and overall quaint decorating style. Don’t worry about bringing equipment for cooking, because the kitchen is outfitted with everything necessary to make whatever your heart desires. A bathroom with a shower (no tub) is located just off the kitchen, and is stocked with fluffy bath towels for guests’ use. Also equipped with a second table, this might be a place that you’ll find useful for scrapbooking, sewing, or even a card game. The two bedrooms are upstairs, and are each furnished with King beds, antique dressers, and window A/C units. Beamed ceilings and paneled walls keep that cabin-y vibe going throughout the upstairs, while a little reading nook upstairs is a cozy spot for a little quiet hang-out time What better end to a day in the country than to step out to the screened porch, and listen to spring peepers sing their chirpy song as dusk begins to fall? Outside, you’ll find that sitting around the campfire pit is a pleasant experience, indeed…but please remember to bring along your own firewood…and your fishing poles, if you want to enjoy some catch & release fishing in the pond. One or two couples, a family, or even a group of girlfriends will enjoy a rendezvous at ‘Tween Waters Trails…where you’re invited to get outside and hike around the property by way of the marked trails; or you may prefer to just jibber-jabber away on the porch swing. If you can bear to tear yourself away from the peace and quiet at this cabin, it’s only about a short drive in to Nashville. ‘Tween Waters Trails is a ‘home-stay’ cabin…meaning that the owners will be onsite in their side of the house…but you will have your own private entrance. The homeowners will let you be, but are happy to offer suggestions on things to do, if you need assistance.

Cabin (1560 sq. ft.) in Morgantown, Indiana
4.7 miles from Lake Lemon
Blue Bird Log Cabin is one of the most authentic and historical log cabins in all of Indiana. Built almost entirely of reclaimed logs, barn beams, siding and barn tin, gathered from antique cabins and barns all over southern Indiana that date back as early as the 1820s. The moment you walk in, you feel like you have been whisked back 200 years in time to a much simpler and more serene time in history. It is also one of the most romantic hideaways you will ever find. Tucked away in the middle of 30 heavily wooded acres, sitting on its own private pond, you will feel like there is no one else on the planet but you. Whether you like outdoor adventures or snuggling up by a roaring fire, Blue Bird Log Cabin has it. Words that have been used by our guests to describe Blue Bird Log Cabin, are “magical,” “stunning,” “enchanting,” “breathtaking,” and “amazing.” Come see for yourself. Come experience the magic of Blue Bird Log Cabin.
